Isabel Marant’s Spring 2012 collection was right in line with her signature aesthetic: bohemian accents mixed with rocker chic silhouettes. From the first look on Arizona Muse, I knew that this collection would be bright, fun and leggy: an oversized multicolor knit hoodie dress.
Due to my curves, I have to be very mindful of how short my frocks get, but naturally Madame Marant saw no problem with making them as short as possible: a knit tank dress with an asymmetrical hemline on Joan Smalls said it all. I love the way masculine knits were layered over inherently feminine designs including a long plaid shirt over a patchwork/camouflage dress on Carmen Kass and a sports-style windbreaker thrown over printed skinnies on Romee Strijd.
Knits were a main focus in the collection: a chunky cable knit crewneck sweater on Isabeli Fontana, a long oversized grandpa cardigan on Anja Rubik, a boxy knit sweater with fringed short sleeves on Arizona Muse and so much more. The 1980’s style leather jackets and destructed tees were so rocker chic, in true Isabel Marant fashion.
The airy baby blue jumpsuit on Joan Smalls, Isabeli Fontana’s short sleeve romper and the tie-waist shorts and sheer top on Izabel Goulart felt most like Spring and were in sharp contrast to the chunky knits in the collection.
Emmanuelle Alt, Kate Bosworth and Beyoncé are fans. I can totally see Kate rocking the chunky knits, Beyoncé the leg-baring looks and Emmanuelle the masculine leathers, in black of course.

Ah, I think it’s love. The chunky knits, especially, are a feast for the eye and very unexpected. Glad you shared!!
