Beyoncé and Jay-Z took Paris by storm over the past two weeks and were seen out and about everywhere, causing a frenzy in the streets as well as in the fashion industry. Though Jay-Z kept it lowkey, his better half went glam, in sky-high heels and bare legs.
Beyoncé definitely wanted to pay homage to Parisian designers and chose pieces from Isabel Marant’s Fall 2010 collection twice while in the City of Light. On their last day, she wore a layered look of a denim shirt underneath a khaki skirt, shorts in the same creamy hue and Isabel Marant’s Keni Leather Biker Jacket as seen on Freja Beha Erichsen on the runway. She accessorized with round John Lennon-esque sunnies, oversized hoop earrings and Christian Louboutin Lady Daf Mary Jane Pumps ($995). I absolutely love the look, very biker chic with a touch of femme added by the mary janes. I love that she kept her makeup and hair simple and let’s give a round of applause to her new trainer, Tracy Anderson for those legs!
Mary Janes are a classic footwear style and are the epitome of femininity. Prada’s striped version are some of the most coveted for Spring, but a few other designers have produced some amazing styles for the season. Here are my top picks.
Christian Louboutin’s Corto Mary Jane Pumps ($695) are low enough for everyday wear and the hue is ideal, no matter what the season. Every now and then, you must invest in a great pair of flats and Kate Spade’s Elena Patent Mary Janes ($198) are girlish and sophisticated, in an eye-popping red shade. Cole Haan makes some of the most comfortable footwear in the industry and the Stephanie Air Mary Jane Pumps ($298) will make you feel as if you’re walking on air, while looking incredibly chic. Bows and mary janes: what could be more feminine? Miu Miu’s Bow Tie Mary Jane Booties ($675) are adorable and an extra girly take on the style.
In my opinion, studs never go out of style, thus Balmain’s Studded Mary Jane Pumps ($1195) are a perfect must-splurge for Spring. Here are the aforementioned Prada Striped Mary Jane Pumps ($595) that the industry cannot get enough of. People have a multitude of things to say about Forever21, but I am an avid fan of the brand’s footwear and the Floral Mary Jane Heels ($24.80) are gorgeous and perfect for Spring. A classic black pair of mary janes is a wardrobe necessity and Giuseppe Zanotti’s version ($650) is excellent, with the added bonus of a peep-toe.
