New York Fashion Week: Jason Wu Spring 2012

Jason Wu is a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama, ladies who lunch and the refined set, but for Spring 2012 he is vying to be the favorite of those who love to bare legs. He showed hot pants galore and I can’t help but feel that every fashion-minded woman with luxurious taste will be taking full advantage of her gym membership this Winter.

Florals were in full effect (as they were at Peter Som as well), though Jason’s were darker, in mixtures of black and white and navy, cobalt and white. His classic collared blouses were shown, perfect for the office, though quite the pairing when juxtaposed with hot pants and Spring-perfect outerwear, on Jourdan Dunn, Ming Xi and Kinga Rajzak.

Jason must know that we curvy girls love his clothing as well because many of the hemlines on the back of his coats and dresses were longer, giving more coverage, but also creating an amazing effect as the models walked the runway. Longer back hemlines are also great for dramatic effect.

Not to be forgotten were the simple separates including high-waisted cropped trousers on Liu Wen and Ajak Deng and peplum jackets, worn by Arizona Muse and Ruby Aldridge. These pieces are going to be wardrobe staples for the working woman and the peplum jackets can definitely be made downtown chic for the younger set with sky-high heels and denim. The dresses were exquisite from cocktail to ballgown: a sleeveless pixelated dot print dress on Mirte Maas, a flowy mini number in the aforementioned navy, cobalt and white floral, a showstopping lime green strapless ball gown on Aymeline Valade and many more.

I really hope to see style mavens Diane Kruger and Julianne Moore in these designs in the upcoming months.
