Allure Gives Us the Scoop on Troy Polamalu’s Amazing Hair

One thing you should know about me: I am a huge fan of Troy Polamalu. He is the reason why I am now a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and strangely, he is kind of a hair inspiration.

He has better hair than most women that I think have great hair. I am always worried that it might get damaged during play (he is quite scrappy on the field, you should watch a game), but miraculously it goes unharmed. He now officially is a very big deal as he has his own wax statue at Madame Tussauds, fully equipped with an amazing head of hair. His mane has also garnered him a contract with Head and Shoulders, as well as an insurance policy with Lloyds of London totaling one million dollars.

Allure met up with Troy at the unveiling of his statue in New York City and got the scoop on his curly locks. Read the interview below.

When was the last time you cut your hair? “I don’t think I’ve cut my hair in almost ten years—not even a trim, no.”

Why don’t you wear your hair in a ponytail during games? “That’s a good question—in my rookie year, I used to wear it in a ponytail. But one game, I actually just took it out, and my uncle was like, just let your hair go—it’ll be symbolic of how you play; just let it loose. I owe a lot of credit to my uncle for that, among other things.”

You use Head & Shoulders shampoo and conditioner. Do you air-dry your hair; do you use styling products? “No, not really [any styling products]—I just let it air-dry.”

Amazing right? He hasn’t cut his hair in ten years and it looks that great? Should we all be using Head & Shoulders and letting our hair fly free? Definitely something to think about.
