Alexa Chung’s effortless downtown chic style can make even an avant-garde high fashion dress look wearable. She showed just that at the 2nd Annual Capsule Collection for Vogue Eyewear Launch at the Sunglass Hut Flagship in New York City.
Alexa chose a Lily Pond Floral Print Dress from Mary Katrantzou’s Fall 2011 collection: slightly altered from the runway with less padding around the hips to make it more wearable. She accessorized with black t-strap pumps and a black Chanel bag. The look is definitely statement-making and powerful, though Alexa decided to dress it down instead of making it full-on glam. She is showing us that we can indeed wear florals for Fall when paired with dark, neutral accessories. I also love that the dress’ skirt is velvet: one of my favorite fabrics for Fall and making it a perfect cold-weather pairing with black tights and black suede booties to give the look even more texture.
Mary Katrantzou’s Lily Pond Floral Print Dress retails for $1950. Visit www.neimanmarcus.com to purchase and www.marykatrantzou.com for more information. See Alexa’s dress on the runway below, worn by Katya Ko.
