Dries Van Noten is a print master and for Spring 2012, he used both a tropical landscape print and an aerial circus print to give some animated design to a collection that was mostly centered around the classic palette of black and white. I am always excited about seeing the way he blends femininity, functionality and sophistication in his pieces and this collection was no exception.
Refinement and sophistication could be felt in the great functional separates in the collection including a grey sleeveless tie-waist overcoat on Ruby Aldridge, a pink cropped blazer and black cropped trousers on Karmen Pedaru, Kinga Rajzak’s flouncy hot pink skirt, a white sleeveless peplum vest on Liu Wen, a long black and white colorblock jacket on Julia Nobis, Sara Blomqvist’s black peplum sleeve dress and so much more.
The tropical landscape print surfaced on long jackets on Roberta Narciso and Hanne Gaby Odiele, while the Circus print played centerstage on Magdalena Langrova’s crop top. To return to refinement, an array of black dresses with interesting detailing were shown: lace sleeves on Daiane Conterato, a deep v and an intricate cutout overlay on Fei Fei Sun, Karmen Pedaru’s long gown with ruffle detailing and so much more.
Not to forget were the trousers which featured a short peplum skirt at the front. They will be perfect for the fashionable set before the temperatures rise, as well as for women in the office who are looking to add some spice and high-fashion to their everyday work wardrobes.
Solange Knowles, Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicole Kidman are fans so I hope that they all choose looks from the collection in the coming months for the red carpet.
