If there is any trend that is here to stay, that trend is color blocking. Everyone is mixing up their favorite hues and going for bold, pop looks that are truly presenting some very unique and interesting ensembles. I am a fan of the trend because it is giving me a chance to pair things together that I never would have before.
Celebrities are really in love with the trend and have been rocking it in a major way. Solange Knowles is always the fashion daredevil and she actually went for a streamlined color blocking look at the INC International Concepts Announcement in New York City. She went for an INC International Concepts Three Quarter Sleeve Colorblock Sweater ($59.50) and paired it with mustard cropped trousers, a purple Emilio Pucci Marquise Bag ($1495) and leopard print Tribute Pumps from Yves Saint Laurent. I am in love with the look and cannot wait to see what she wears next, as usual. Solange also mixes high and low here effortlessly, which shows a great knowledge of style and a great eye for quality.
Rashida Jones also tried the trend at the “Our Idiot Brother” premiere in Los Angeles. She wore a black dress with a pink and red peplum skirt from Stella McCartney and paired it with jewelry from Neil Lane and grey suede platform pumps from Casadei. Though fashion critics have had mixed reviews about this look, I really loved that Rashida went for something fun, feminine and bright. This is such a classic Stella McCartney look: sometimes her fit is boxy and roomy, but I adore it because at the end of the day her pieces are comfortable and totally functional.
Here are some pieces to help you try the color blocking trend right now:
Much like Solange’s sweater, Vince’s Colorblock Boat Sweater ($275) captures the season’s hottest trend in a perfect neutral piece. Kimberly Ovitz makes such cool pieces and her Meka Colorblock Dress ($366) is no exception. Another Marc by Marc Jacobs dress that I love for Fall is the Clara Colorblock Dress ($158) which is great alone, or with a leather jacket and tights. How can a woman ever go wrong in Sophie Theallet? Add a little color into your wardrobe with her Cashmere Colorblock Sweater ($495).
