Alexander Wang Resort 2012 Starring Ajak Deng and Fei Fei Sun

Alexander Wang is unstoppable this year. He is opening his second flagship store next year in Beijing and this month, he snagged the coveted Accessories Designer of the Year Award at the  2011 CFDA Fashion Awards. For Resort 2012, he is continuing in his sporty chic vein and I must say, the collection is delightful.

He has an uncanny ability to create urban pieces that still have a hint of sophistication and that is one of the reasons why I admire Alexander’s designs. Utilitarian chic is best used here, with oversized pockets, waterproof fabrics and easy silhouettes galore. The looks are all paired with heels, showing that a woman can dress up even the most functional, athletic-inspired designs.

Colorblocking is definitely back again for Resort, with primary colors in full force. The jackets are some of my favorite pieces in the collection including bright multi-print ponchos, short-sleeved styles that can be worn over sweaters in the office for a perfectly chic layered look and two funnel neck jackets that will protect you no matter what kind of precipitation comes your way.

Naturally, the season calls for swimsuits and Alexander had those in amazing zip-front one-pieces, a foam green style with cut-out detailing hiding behind a jacket and cropped trousers and a red Baywatch-esque swimsuit that will surely be a fashion set favorite. A completely wearable collection and I need Zoe Kravitz and Nicki Minaj to get their hands on these pieces. STAT.
