Yes folks, the Resort 2012 shows are starting. Spring hasn’t even ended, Fall is still months away and yet the fashion industry is delving into Resort season because we are always ahead of the pack.
One of the first shows of the season was Oscar de la Renta’s and naturally, he did not disappoint. Picasso in his Cubist period served as his inspiration and that influence was clearly seen in the designs’ abstract prints.
It is common knowledge that Oscar de la Renta caters to the ladies who lunch, but many of the pieces in this collection could be worn by a much younger crowd. Silhouettes ranged from long blazers and high-waisted striped A-line skirts on Aminata Niaria, crewneck sweaters and coral cropped skinnies on Rose Cordero, an interesting take on a chambray shirt on Jacquelyn Jablonski and many more. Oscar’s signature suits were shown as well as a plethora of knee-length shifts and sheaths on Ataui Deng, Siri Tollerød and others.
You can’t mention Resort without poolside attire and that was supplied with a one-piece printed suit accessorized with a gold waist belt and worn under a long jacket on Britt Maren and a pink striped crop top and hot pants modeled by VS Angel Candice Swanepoel. Both had completely retro feels and I know that every editor is clamoring to not only wear the crop top, but to put it in one of her upcoming fashion spreads.
Where Oscar always excels is in red-carpet gowns. This collection was no exception with the flamenco style red ruffled number (shown above) on Ataui Deng, a super sexy emerald green draped gown with a thigh-high slit on Candice Swanepoel, a strapless bubblegum pink princess gown on Ajak Deng and a printed cocktail dress with a grey feather skirt on Tati Cotliar. All of the pieces are absolute necessities to grace Hollywood’s A-list actresses this year and I can them seen on the likes of Eva Mendes, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lawrence.
