New York Fashion Week: 3.1 Philip Lim Pre-Fall 2018

For his latest collection for Pre-Fall 2018, Phillip Lim pulled inspiration from all things nautical—not a new influence in the fashion industry, but he certainly made it feel fresh.

Knit accents peeked out from behind otherwise proper suiting, while functional leather boots anchored the look (no pun intended) in wearability.

It’s all about the crop for the season—as evidenced by Lim’s toppers cut off at the midriff, shrugs, and bandeaus.

Some of the voluminous, asymmetric-hem dresses and skirts felt a bit out of place, but were beautiful nonetheless. They will certainly get a lot of wear in real-time, once this collection is released next Summer.

What Lim did with gingham, stripes, and pleats was incredibly elegant and had an old-world feel. From a pleated cutout dress to slip-on mules, these pieces could easily be dressed up or down.

Lim’s legion of stylish fans include Yara Shahidi, Ashley Madekwe, and Anna Diop and I fully expect to see these ladies in the collection’s red carpet-ready wares. An asymmetric sleeve LWD with a colorful hem is just the thing for the fashionable L.A.-living Brit, while a cutout LBD with silver accents would showcase the grownish star’s evolving style perfectly.
