I’m a history buff, thus I was pleased upon learning that brother and sister design duo Camilla Freeman Topper and Marc Freeman were inspired by Francis Bacon’s Three Studies of Lucian Freud for their Fall 2014 collection. The architecturally-inspired crystalline frame encapsulating Freud’s figure was the true influence and rendered itself in the clean cut lines of the designs that were punctuated with bouts of femininity and sporty chic detailing.
The color palette was almost exclusively black and white, save for some pops of navy and powder blue. Mesh added to the athletic-inspired quotient: often paired with full, ladylike silhouettes for an eye-catching juxtaposition.
The simplistic, yet expert craftsmanship at hand will certainly grab the eyes of celebrity fans of the brand as that was one of the elements that pulled me in. I was predisposed to a black strapless jumpsuit, but I’m certain the collection’s white suit and strapless ruffled gown will resonate with someone like Nicole Richie, whose recently-dyed purple hair will really give the pieces a kick.
