Maison Kitsuné Fall 2014

Mélange is intrinsic to the Maison Kitstuné brand as the line is both a clothing and record label that whimsically blends Japanese detailing, American sportswear, and French sensibility. For Fall 2014, the brains behind the brand, Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, channeled 50’s and 60’s rock-n-roll culture. That translated into menswear-inspired suiting, mixed textures, and dashes of retro femininity.

There was a definite focus on functionality with denim, penny loafers, structured blazers, and bomber jackets.

Though a minor detail, I loved seeing most of the ensembles paired with tights — grounding the looks in real-time wear.

I thoroughly expect to see stylish ladies like Solange Knowles, Lupita Nyong’o, and Alexa Chung in pieces from the collection. A powder blue and black dainty coat was practically made for Chung while a wolf print mini skirt is just the thing for Ms. Knowles’s pattern-heavy wardrobe.
