There have been quite a few rumors flying around about who is to succeed John Galliano at Christian Dior, but from the looks of the Spring 2012 collection, I think Bill Gaytten is doing a pretty good job. The Fall 2011 Couture Collection might have been off-track, but he has surely gotten back on with his newest designs.
Like Nina Ricci, this collection was completely feminine and elegant. Skinny belts cinched the waist wherever possible and peplum ruled, harking back to the 1930’s and 1940’s. I loved the varied color palette and prints including a three-quarter sleeve geometric print jacket on Liu Wen, a black and white windowpane skirt on Nyasha Matonhodze (shown above), Ajak Deng’s all-coral look, a beige multicolor dot print dress with a plunging neckline on Lee Hye Jung and so much more.
I loved the sultry red lips on the models, calling forth the inherent sensuality of the brand. Let’s not forget the accessories: sky-high sandals accented with sequins, architectural silver jewelry and other statement-making pieces that any fashion-minded woman would fawn over.
