Milan Fashion Week: Salvatore Ferragamo Spring 2012

A tropical paradise is what Salvatore Ferragamo created with its Spring 2012 collection. Bright colors and wild prints were bountiful, oozing luxury and the brand’s sensuality.

Though frequently taking fashion risks, Massimiliano Giornetti kept workwear separates and suiting in the collection, naturally in extravagant textures and bold colors: a pink and black plaid suit with its skirt boasting a thigh high slit, a purple leather shirt jacket layered over a dress, a purple silk satin suit with draped tie-front pants. The amazing tropical prints were shown in a jumpsuit on Natasha Poly, an ankle-length halter dress on Anja Rubik and so much more.

Pink was a mainstay hue in the collection on a halter dress with clever cutouts on Karlie Kloss, a strapless dress with a thigh high slit on Magdalena Frackowiak and beautiful handbags including a striped embroidered clutch and a suede shoulder bag featuring Ferragamo’s classic hardware symbol. Pink and red also showed itself, clearly demonstrating that the colorblocking combination is going to be huge for Spring.

I am a huge fan of animal print and I was thrilled to see it done in purple and orange in high-waisted harem pants on Aymeline Valade and a one-shoulder draped gown on Joan Smalls. It was also done in cerulean blue and cobalt blue in a halter harem jumpsuit again on Aymeline, a strapless tie-waist gown with a thigh high slit on Natasha Poly, a stunning gown mixing in the tropical print with a plunging neckline on Anja Rubik and so much more.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Lady Gaga are fans. I cannot wait to see how both interpret the runway looks in the coming months.
