Each season, there are hundreds of collections shown in several cities around the globe. It can be hard to keep track and see them all, even for a fashion enthusiast like myself. Ermanno Scervino is a designer that has captivated me with his Spring 2012 collection, though it shocked me to discover that his brand has been around since 1999 and is one of the most popular in Italy. The amount of model heavyweights walking in his show is a clear indication.
Sportswear is Ermanno’s forte, but this is Italian sportswear: chic, sophisticated, feminine and functional. It has a couture sensibility to it, in the expert detailing and tailoring that is used to craft the pieces. Jackets are an integral part of his formula and for Spring they were stunning in a long sandwashed denim color double-breasted style with white eyelet detailing on Carmen Kass, Abbey Lee Kershaw’s spearmint green number that channeled Dior’s New Look, a cropped olive and kelly green two-layer anorak on Aymeline Valade, another anorak with an eyelet and embroidered front and so much more.
I have become a die-hard fan of pencil skirts and why wouldn’t any woman with curves be? Ermanno showed amazing styles for the season in spearmint as well as a high-waisted ruffle detailed number in camel on Joan Smalls, kelly green on Abbey Lee Kershaw (shown above) and so much more. I really loved the mesh knit tops that were paired with ladylike separates including a sheer lace skirt on Aymeline Valade and Herieth Paul’s ruffled style.
Ermanno loves strong, powerful women and this collection really can only be worn by those who are confident in their bodies and styles. He talks of dressing “urban princesses” and that is so clear here, with pieces that have all of the makings of a refined woman who still has that edge to her look and is clearly on-the-go.
He has had Alice Dellal and Theodora Richards as the faces of his brand in past seasons, so I am really looking forward to seeing how international “It” girls wear his pieces in the coming months.
