Lady Gaga in YSL Edition Soir 2011 and Vintage Versace: Is She the Ultimate Marketing Scheme for Versace for H&M?

You can never miss Lady Gaga. Whether it be her turquoise-colored mane or bright clothing, she truly knows how to pack a punch and to a woman who thinks more is best like me, she is a style winner.

She was seen in Toronto Airport in an eye-catching ensemble of a red silk crepe dress from Yves Saint Laurent’s Edition Soir 2011 collection, as well as a black and blue vintage Versace blazer from 1991. She accessorized with “January Jones” sunglasses from Versace and a Chyc Cabas Tote ($1995) from YSL. Though too covered for summer, I love the punchy colors of the ensemble as well as her integration of vintage. She truly gets pieces that no one else can and she wears them in ways that are completely unexpected.

In case you are residing under a very pretty rock, Versace has just released news of its H&M collaboration, hitting stores worldwide on November 17th. The industry has been in a complete frenzy and Donatella debuted a dress from the collection at her Spring 2012 Menswear show in Milan this week. The dress is fabulous, in black leather with gold studs.

If you also haven’t noticed, Gaga has been wearing a great load of vintage Versace over the past month. She has said that she will only be wearing vintage pieces from the brand over the next couple of months and that she has always wanted to wear pieces designed by Gianni himself. (Red Carpet Fashion Awards) Coincidence? I think not. This news of Versace’s H&M collection only solidifies that idea. As I discussed with a colleague, only an extremely small percentage of people under the age of 25 can identify vintage Versace, but the demand for the brand has now skyrocketed with Gaga wearing it everywhere. No one can get their hands on what she is rocking, but that will not stop the masses from wanting anything with the brand’s label solely because she is wearing it.

Who else can create a buzz like Gaga? I think it is pretty genius and I cannot wait to see which other vintage Versace pieces she chooses throughout the rest of the year.
