The Resort 2012 collections are all about prints and Riccardo Tisci is continuing in that vein with his for Givenchy. He is the master of mixing feminine and masculine and he is does that this season with sporty, functional silhouettes.
Floral is the big focus on sheath dresses belted at the waist, military-style caps, sweatshirts, flouncy mini skirts fit for the court perhaps on Venus Williams and on a cropped jacket. Visors are paired with many of the looks and they are definitely functional for resort destinations, but we will have to wait and see whether or not anyone actually wears them.
Riccardo plays with mesh which continues the sporty aesthetic of the collection. I can definitely see those pieces being worn in warm weather destinations as well as when Summer 2012 rolls around. Don’t be fooled: there is still loads of femininity in the collection. A long white form-fitting maxi skirt, sheer sequin embroidered dresses and a long navy gown on Ajak Deng that must be worn on the red carpet are all looks that remind us that Riccardo does in fact design for every woman, giving us all something to covet.
Givenchy’s next Couture collection debuts next month and I cannot wait to see it. Hopefully some confirmation of Riccardo’s move to Dior will be dispelled soon as well.
