The 2011 MET Gala has come and gone, but the fashions and memories from it will live forever. Nicole Richie not only attended the Gala this year, but designed a piece worn by supermodel Britt Maren: a pale gold custom-made dress from her line Winter Kate made of a silk velvet blend. The dress featured a low back and beading at the waist, which perfectly matched the headpiece worn by Britt from Nicole’s other line, House of Harlow 1960. It was a total Greek goddess moment and she couldn’t have looked better.
“McQueen was such a visionary, it would be hard to say that most fashion today isn’t inspired in someway or another by him. Whether it’s the color of the fabric, the texture, the detail of the sleeves, the lining, or the draping at the waist, the details of this dress that was created for Britt Maren, were all inspired by looking at McQueen’s designs over the years.” – Nicole Richie
Nicole is adding a charitable element to the fashion festivities and has decided to auction off the gown to benefit her own Richie Madden Children’s Foundation. The charity was started in 2007 and helps young mothers in need by providing them with basic supplies including car seats, bottles, cribs and so much more.
The auction for the gown will begin this Thursday May 12th at 12noon EST. Bidding will begin at $500, but that really is a small price to pay for a MET Gala gown going towards such a great case. Mark your calendars and visit www.ebay.com to start bidding on Thursday.
