Joan Smalls has easily slid to the top of my list of favorite models and the fashion industry definitely shares my sentiment. She is a natural beauty and I think her being African-American and Latina as well as a resident of Queens, NY has much too much in common with myself.
Long gone are the days when actual models were featured in videos instead of “video vixens”. Kanye West attempted to bring that era back by choosing Selita Ebanks and now Bruno Mars is also following suit by choosing Smalls for his newest video. The duo was seen in Smalls’ native Puerto Rico on set.
They both looked rather dapper and naturally, she wore a high-fashion look: a spaghetti-strap white printed dress with a fringed hem from Prada’s Spring 2011 collection. She also wore orange and black striped maryjanes from the collection. Anything from Prada Spring 2011 would be perfect for a tropical shoot because of the vibrancy and color in the pieces. I cannot wait to see it all come to life.
