Of all the faces in the world, there aren’t many more recognizable and distinct than Frida Kahlo’s. Whether you grew familiar with her through her paintings or through Salma Hayek’s depiction in the movie Frida, her influence and genius cannot be denied.
Now some of the most intimate photographs of her life have surfaced in Pablo Ortiz Monasterio’s exhibition titled “Frida Kahlo: Her Photos”. Ortiz Monasterio selected 240 photographs, from a collection of 6500 and they are pretty exquisite. My favorite is the above: a 1938 photograph shot by Florence Arquin in which Frida is at home with her monkey Fulang Chang. This is the first time these photos are coming to the US and they are definitely a must-see.
