Next Up for Macy’s Impulse: Doo-Ri Chung

Giambattista Valli’s collection for Macy’s Impulse hasn’t even hit stores yet and already the brand has announced its next designer: Doo-Ri Chung. A favorite of style mavens like Michelle Obama and Estelle, she is definitely one of the industry’s hottest designers, known for her expertly-draped jersey dresses.

From the sketch above, you can tell that the collection will be full of Doo-Ri’s signature draped designs, feminine silhouettes and loads of color and prints. Everyone from the modern day working woman to the on-the-go student will love these pieces and will be able to wear them day in and day out.

“The customer is very different from whom we’ve catered to before, but I really didn’t have to adapt. Macy’s wanted to keep the design level high. I didn’t feel the challenge was very different.” – Doo-Ri Chung (Fashionista)

So who will be the next Macy’s designer? I would love to see someone like Jean-Charles de Castelbajac or Christian Siriano next. They both are immensely talented. The former could bring a fun, flirty edge to the brand and the latter a great level of sophistication and interesting details, taking some cues from his Spring 2012 collection.

Doo-Ri Chung for Macy’s Impulse will debut on February 15th and will be on sale for approximately eight weeks. The collection will retail from $39 – $159. Visit www.macys.com/impulse for more information and see more sketches of the collection below.
