When I think of a brand that is inextricably French and oh so cool, Paul & Joe comes to mind. Sophie Albou is the brain behind the line and she named it after her two sons. She worked with one of the most iconic fashion designers of all time, Azzedine Alaia, where she honed her skills. She then went on to become a stylist before embarking on the journey of creating her own line in 1995.
Sophie first created a menswear collection and those touches can still be seen in her womenswear today, which was started one year later in 1996. At the time, her menswear was so unlike anything else in the industry with its poppy colors and youthful aesthetic, seen years later in her Spring 2012 womenswear collection in a yellow suit worn by Arizona Muse. Button-down shirts and trousers have always been a signature for her and the classic styles continue to grow each season.
Each Paul & Joe collection is very much inspired by its creator: a love of whimsy, travel and femininity, but always comprised of pieces that allow the Paul & Joe woman to be on the go. All of these things could seen in the Spring collection from the statement-making ikat prints to the glorious pant options that really could work all year-round.
