Paris Fashion Week: Damir Doma Spring 2012

Damir Doma’s Spring 2012 collection resonated with me because of the soft and composed nature of his designs. His clever play on proportions and interesting mix of fabrics and textures really came together for fluid pieces that could work easily in the modern woman’s wardrobe.

His mix of masculine and feminine blends perfectly in with the Parisian aesthetic, though Damir was born in Croatia and spent so much time in his mother’s atelier in Germany. He spent some time working with Raf Simons and that influence can definitely be seen in the clever balance he creates between originality, creativity and functionality. Damir is a menswear designer at heart and that still rings true for his womenswear in this collection with the high-collar bomber style jackets seen on Liu Wen (shown above) and others that had a military/band jacket feel, like the chartreuse style shown on Ajak Deng (also shown above).

Though I can be quite flashy when it comes to my style, I love that the collection was really very simple and pure when it came to design and was devoid of all frills. Save for some metallic pieces, slight embellishment on jackets and a lace dress, the designs were kept very clean.

If you are looking for a Damir Doma piece to invest in now, this Grey Full Length Jacket ($490) will be perfect for Fall and can be accessorized with a statement pair of pumps if you are looking to inject your personal style.
