Thandie Newton is back on the fashion scene and I could not be more excited. I last profiled her in July, when she was featured in Vanity Fair August 2011 in Solange Azagury-Partridge diamonds. Now she is stepping out in a high-fashion look that screams femininity and glamour.
Thandie was spotted at the Coach and Gwyneth Paltrow Dinner Party in London, celebrating the opening of the brand’s first European flagship. She went for total elegance in a silk floral dress from Giles’ Resort 2012 collection. She accessorized with Glitter Leather Pumps ($630) from Miu Miu and a nude clutch from Calvin Klein, perfectly matching her frock. For beauty, Thandie sported an easy updo and a fresh face, showcasing her true beauty and really letting the dress play centerstage. She showed just how sophisticated and sexy longer hemlines can be and I love that she is always a champion of British designers.
When it comes to fun and eccentric designs, Giles Deacon is one of the greats. For Resort 2012, he blended his signature elements with functional silhouettes, showing that he can make clothing for the modern day woman and not just the funky “It” girl. Nyasha Matonhodze stars in the collection and I cannot think of anyone better to model the youthful, yet refined vibe of the pieces.
The collection is full of dresses and separates that can be worn everywhere from the office, to a night out, as well as to a cocktail event. Expertly-tailored navy wide-leg trousers, cowlneck gowns with thigh-high slits and flirty dresses with ruffle hems are all pieces from the very sweet and flirty assortment. The palette of the collection does not veer off into any wild moments, but stays fairly straightforward with beautiful prints, navy, hints of gold metallic and rose pink.
Giles’ Spring 2012 collection debuts at London Fashion Week on Monday, September 19th. See more images from his Resort collection below.
