There is no better way to go glam for everyday than by wearing sequins. They are no longer just a nighttime, party detail, but can also be worn to the office and on weekends in subtle ways.
Diane Kruger opted for sequins, feathers and embroidery, taking glam to the max at the Tiffany & Co. Dinner in Beverly Hills. She chose a silver and gold metallic dress from Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2011 collection that is truly a showstopper. I love the fact that she is never afraid to go for any look on the red carpet and that she has such an effortless style and grace which allows her to pull the most daring looks off.
For his Fall 2011 collection, Prabal Gurung was inspired by Miss Havisham, a character from Charles Dickens’ famed novel Great Expectations. Miss Havisham was a glorified spinster, though quite wealthy and it is clear that Prabal wanted to put a youthful, modern and edgy spin on the idea of dressing her, as the novel was after all set in 1861. Naturally, the influence could be felt in the longer hemlines, more modest silhouettes and in the feminine details from the use of lace to the elegantly cinched waists that rounded out some of the looks.
Miss Havisham confined herself to her ruined, decaying mansion and there was a sense of the undone in many of the pieces, whether it was the wisps of silk that hung loosely from a grey dress on Mirte Maas or even the way the dress hung off Karlie Kloss’ shoulder in the first look on the runway. Prabal has the uncanny ability to add loads of confidence and sensuality into anything he designs and the looks he showed on the runway for Fall are definitely for a woman who knows herself and her style, yet doesn’t need to bare it all to be sexy.
With his show just weeks away, I cannot wait to see what Prabal Gurung shows for Spring 2012.
