This has been a great week for some of my favorite models, as well as for models of color. First, Jourdan Dunn’s fashion spread in Vogue September 2011 was released and now Joan Smalls has her very own fashion spread and article in T Style’s Women’s Fashion Fall 2011 issue, titled “Chaos Theory”. She wears an array of great looks from a slew of high-fashion designers.
In the piece, Joan talks about not only her personal hopes, but her hopes for the fashion industry as well: “I would love to see ethnic barriers abolished and an equal opportunity available to all. On a personal level, I would also like to achieve things professionally that no model has ever done before.”
On the fashion front, the spread features prints galore from a printed Burberry Prorsum top with fur sleeves, black and white pixelated Piazza Sempione pants, paisley pieces from J.W. Anderson, a printed Emilio Pucci corset and so much more. It is so wonderful to see Joan at the top of her game and I know that only more amazing things are to come for her. Fashion Week is just weeks away and I am excited about seeing her on the runway in all of the fashion cities.
