Milan Fashion Week: Blumarine Spring 2012

Flower power! That’s exactly what I thought upon seeing Blumarine’s Spring 2012 collection. The pieces are a wonderful ode to all things floral and have hints of the 50′s and 80′s blended in: loud and bright in true Blumarine fashion.

Everything was perfect from the flashy earrings to the clothing, and even to the fabulous footwear. Naturally, nothing was subtle or understated because that is not the Blumarine aesthetic. Start doing ab work for Spring now ladies because bare midriffs are popping up all over the runways and were shown here on a floral v-neck cropped wrap sweater on Karlie Kloss, Magdalena Frackowiak’s orange mesh cropped top, cropped motorcycle jackets on Melodie Monrose and Joan Smalls, Anais Mali’s floral zip bandeau, a black fringe cropped tube top on Britt Maren and so much more.

Dresses were brighter and livelier than I have seen on any Spring 2012 runway so far. So many of them channeled Mad Men yet were in kitschy, 50′s retro colors. I can definitely see First Lady Michelle Obama in a few of the more subtle pieces. Then the collection broke into amazing sequin dresses with oversized colorful flowers, which definitely have to be worn on the red carpet by a fashion daredevil like Katy Perry or Anna Dello Russo.

When the collection broke into black and white, only the palette was neutral: Anna Molinari crafted pieces from tiny rosettes, that resembled little paper flowers. Oversized paillettes were also shown on tiny briefs that I can definitely see Rihanna wearing onstage. Lei-inspired earrings and skirts were not for the faint of heart and will probably look best in editorial.

Khloe Kardashian and Sarah Jessica Parker are fans so I can definitely see them making some of the more fun pieces and accessories their own.
